All Creation is Called to Praise God
“Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from heaven! Praise God on the heights! 2 Praise God, all of you who are his messengers! Praise God, all of you who comprise his heavenly forces! 3 Sun and moon, praise God! All of you bright stars, praise God! 4 You highest heaven, praise God! Do the same, you waters that are above the sky! 5 Let all of these praise the Lord’s name because God gave the command and they were created! 6 God set them in place always and forever. God made a law that will not be broken. 7 Praise the Lord from the earth, you sea monsters and all you ocean depths! 8 Do the same, fire and hail, snow and smoke, stormy wind that does what God says! 9 Do the same, you mountains, every single hill, fruit trees, and every single cedar! 10 Do the same, you animals—wild or tame—you creatures that creep along and you birds that fly! 11 Do the same, you kings of the earth and every single person, you princes and every single ruler on earth! 12 Do the same, you young men—young women too!—you who are old together with you who are young! 13 Let all of these praise the Lord’s name because only God’s name is high over all. Only God’s majesty is over earth and heaven.” Psalm 148:1-13
One of our favorite things to do is travel and see God’s creation—and give God praise for creation. We got the opportunity to do that this past July during our travels through four states (New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona) . Each state left us in awe and giving praise to God for all of creation—creation that continues to be created every moment of everyday. Most of what we saw took millions of years to create, much like the structures in Arches National Park (pictured below). The mountains in northern New Mexico, the Royal Gorge in Colorado, the Canyon Lands in Utah, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona were all spectacular displays of God’s creation that seemed to give God praise just by being there and showing off their beauty They were actually doing what God created them to do—giving God praise by being what God created them to be. The psalmist includes us in the list of God’s creation as well. We too were created that we might give God praise, yet I admit that much of the time I am more about me and my desires than I am about God and giving him praise for my creation; not to mention all the creation around me. So as I reflect on my vacation, I give God praise for all of creation that has given me tremendous joy and happiness in my travels—and the reminder to give God praise for all He has created and is creating; even in me. Praise the Lord! Your Pastor & Friend, HarrellJan - Utah
